From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
